Sometimes it’s the minor enhancements that have the biggest impact on our customers. Our recent improvement to image support and management should do wonders in simplifying email design and creation for small businesses. Thanks to Doug and Drew, adding an image or logo to an outbound email is now super simple using the standard WYSIWYG editor. While previously, images were locked down to those made available in your email template, you can now select any image, at any time, and upload it directly into the content of your message.

When you want to upload an image, you just click the image icon in the WYSIWYG editor of your email.

From here you can browse images on your computer and upload the image you’d like to our server so that it’s usable in your message, acceptable formats include .jpg, .png, or .gif images. The image will not only be made available  for this specific message, it will be saved in your account’s image library for future usage as well in other communications.

Once you’ve uploaded the image, you’ll have the opportunity to specify height and width for your image.  Images over 1,000 pixels wide will be proportionally reduced to a width of 1,000 pixels. Any resizing done by you will also be proportional, so if you change the width the height will automatically change as well to be consistent. You can also specify the alt-text you’d like. Using the alt text can provide a text alternative that people who have images disabled in their email service, so that they know what should be there, or what’s being referenced. Try and be accurate and equivalent in presenting the same content and function as presented by the image. For example, for a picture of an elephant seal, the alt text would say “elephant seal”.

Once you’ve got your image selected, sized, and alt-text specified you can click “okay” and it will be inserted into the body of your email. Should you decide to further refine the image, you can simply double click the image and the image properties editor will reappear. Included abilities will allow you to set image padding space, alignment, and borders to your desire.

Once inserted into the body of your email, you can change the position of your image, and alter the message to match your design intentions. While this may seem a minor improvement to our email product, we wanted to announce it immediately so customers could begin taking advantage of it. This enhancement will be followed by several exciting changes to email in the month of November.
