Everyday it seems I get more and more emails from retailers like Fab.com, Gap, and Gilt Groupe. While I’m sure there’s something nice inside, like a new deal or sale, I don’t bother to open it. I simply get too many of them. Like many relationships, this started out exciting and intriguing, and I just couldn’t get enough (ask my Amex card)! Recently though, it’s different; I’ve been feeling overloaded and suffocated by my retail friends. When this happens I tend to shell-up and avoid the situation, neglecting them all together. When I open my email, I can see them there, staring at me amidst the pile of other personal inbox mail that I have not the time nor energy … Keep reading

QR Spotting – Ciao Bella Gelato
February 27th, 2012 by Julian Rockwood
Today in Target, we spotted Ciao Bella Gelato using Signal‘s QR codes and text call-to-actions to engage their customers. This is a great example call-to-action as they are providing both the scannable QR code for smartphones, and a text keyword for people without web and camera enabled cell phones. Mouth watering yet?
Signal and Redbox win Forrester Groundswell Award
November 8th, 2011 by Jeff Judge
Following up on post we did back in August giving a breakdown of Redbox’s mobile initiatives by the numbers, I’m extremely happy to announce that Signal and Redbox won the highly coveted Forrester Groundswell Award for our highly effective 10 Days of Deals program.
The Forrester Groundswell Awards recognize excellence in achieving business and organizational goals with social technology applications. This campaign is a perfect example of creative use of mobile to deliver real results. Generating over 1.5 million texts in 10 days, 10 Days of Deals led to growth of more than 200,000 unique subscribers to the Redbox text club.
Though the success of this campaign is extraordinary, the principles behind it can be used by businesses of all sizes … Keep reading
redbox® = relationships + rentals
August 3rd, 2011 by Jeff Judge
The infographic above says it all. Physical media rentals are NOT dead. Customers just want to rent in different ways today than they did 5 short years ago.
By providing movie and video game rentals via a network of conveniently located, self-service kiosks, redbox has rented more than 1.5 billion discs at their more than 33,000 kiosks across 27,800 locations nationwide.
But it’s not good enough to merely have a kiosk at locations convenient to consumers. Smart, relevant communication is critical to the success of redbox. It’s the foundation of how redbox deepens their relationships with their loyal customers and acquires new advocates of their brand.
These simple statistics reaffirm this fact:
- Over 4.5 million iPhone app downloads
- Tripled the
Painless API Integration? Our (surprisingly pleasant) experience with Xero
July 20th, 2011 by Dan Alwin
Integrating your application with a third party application can be a headache. It usually involves wading through vendor API documentation and a lot of trial and error. In some cases you end up not being able to complete the integration because the APIs do not do what you need them to do, or simply don’t do what the documentation says they do. You can see why I was a little nervous when I was assigned the task of integrating our application with a third party accounting application.
Integration with a third party application is really no different than any other development task. First you need to decide what you want the integration to accomplish, then you need to confirm that … Keep reading
Fed up with Netflix? Signal helps you find the nearest Redbox.
July 13th, 2011 by John Wood
Yesterday was Redbox‘s birthday.
Alright, there is a 364/365 chance I’m wrong about that. But, judging by the size of the gift Netflix just dropped off, you can see how I could make that mistake. “What was the gift?”, you ask? How about tens of thousands of current Netflix customers angry about the price changes they announced yesterday, and looking for a cheaper way to rent DVDs.
In many of the reactions I read online about the price changes, one option was mentioned over and over: Redbox. And why not? Their service is cheap, convenient, and the movie selection is pretty darned good as well. But if you’re new to Redbox, you may not be too … Keep reading
Mobile, social, and web come together in cross-channel sweepstakes campaign
June 30th, 2011 by Tim Grace
One of our most successful partnerships is with DDC Marketing, who recently ran a campaign for Memphis Car Audio through the Signal platform. While it’s not the biggest campaign we’ve seen, it is one of the most integrated to date.
Memphis Car Audio worked with DDC Marketing to develop an integrated sweepstakes campaign, leveraging the release of Fast Five. The sweepstakes was promoted via multiple channels, including the web and Facebook, and people could enter via mobile, web, or Facebook. And DDC Marketing used the Signal platform to develop, launch, and manage the sweepstakes across the mobile, social, and web channels.
Kudos goes to DDC Marketing for really leveraging the power of the Signal platform across mobile and social and … Keep reading
Redbox 10 Days of Deals Promotion Sets Record
May 31st, 2011 by Tim Grace
America has spoken and the message is clear: big or small, they want a deal. Redbox recently launched a campaign to offer consumers discounts with the “10 Days of Deals” promotion, which offered anywhere from $0.10 to $1.50 off movie rentals at any of Redbox’s locations by simply sending a text message.
In just under a week, the promotion has driven well over 1MM texts, further driving home the fact that consumers are on the hunt for deals on products and services they can really use, be it a dollar or a dime. And the promotion was not only effective with their current customers, further driving loyalty and usage, it also grew their subscriber list by … Keep reading

There’s something about chicken here at Signal.
